Dec 14, 2022 Mcsuper Recommended Isekais are a dime a dozen these days, and it’s not every day you find a really special one. I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend this one, but what I will say is, it’s above average by isekai standards for sure, with good animation and lovable characters that make this show very chill and easy to watch. It has some good concepts, but the overarching video game aspects do hold it back a little. Dec 14, 2022 TheAsterNaut Recommended Reincarnated as a Sword sounds like a boring gimmick, but it does a suprising job of mixing classic fantasy and isekai. The man in the sword is of course somewhat overpowered, but is stronger when wielded by an actual swordsman. As it so happens, a cute black catgirl finds him and he handicaps himself in a way in order to be her sword and protect her since she's actually pretty weak by herself. The genre that has been done so much, to the point that these days, one has to really hit a lot or marks, in order to not only stand out. This is a story that seems pretty normal at first, and while it does not do an amazing amount to stand out it does everything it sets out to do very well. The skill gains are frequent and distinctive enough to feel novelty during each encounter, and the main storyline is well integrated so far. However, I have to say that my expectations were somewhat subverted. While the shows plotline might be similar to that of other Isekai or fantasies (with particular similarities in the earlier episodes to goblin slayer) the characters in this show are completely different from other Isekai. The story is told from his perspective, but the plot itself is about Fran; the sword is content to serve Fran's wishes and pretends to be nonsentient when others are watching. But Fran being treated as the lead character is exactly what makes this series so good. A fantasy-slice o' life-super strong main character duo, my only problem is that it was only 12 episodes! Now that I think about it, I completely forgot this was an isekai since Fran feels so much more like the main character when the dude's a damn sword. For an isekai genre it provides a spin with a man chosen to be a magical telepathic sword that is able to communicate with Fran, our Kuro Neko, and is able to distribute his skills, magic and levels with her in order for her to grow as a character and adventurer. Look no further, TenKen might as well bring you that with all the cliches involved, but here is the thing, a talking sword? Actual good pacing, a story that goes somewhere? Characters that at least feel somewhat human?
